Annual Complaint Data Reports

The following annual reports address complaints and other inquiries Californians made to state consumer assistance centers about their health care. The analyses were produced by the Office of the Patient Advocate (now under CDII) based on data from four state departments with health care coverage programs and oversight.

Measurement Year 2021

(Released August 2023) – This multi-departmental report provides information on health care complaints resolved in 2021.

Measurement Year 2020

(Released May 2022) – This multi-departmental report provides information on health care complaints resolved in 2020. This report was the first released by the Center for Data Insights and Innovation (CDII) following the transition of OPA’s programs to CDII.

Measurement Year 2019

(Released October 2021) – This multi-departmental report provides information on health care complaints resolved in 2019.

Measurement Year 2018

(Released August 2020) – This multi-departmental report provides information on health care complaints resolved in 2018.

Measurement Year 2017

(Released March 2019) – This multi-departmental report provides information on health care complaints resolved in 2017.

Measurement Year 2016

(Released April 2018) – This third-year, multi-departmental report provides information on health care complaints resolved in 2016.

Measurement Year 2015

(Released January 2017) – This second-year, multi-departmental report provides information on health care complaints resolved in 2015.

Measurement Year 2014

(Released May 2016) – This baseline report was the first time in the state’s history that a multi-departmental report on health care complaint data was issued.
